John Butler Art

John Butler
Chasing "The Sublime" in Expressionist Landscapes.
Now fully retired from years of medical general practice, John continues to immerse himself in the landscape as well as minimg a rich lode of memories of times spent in the wilderness, especially of his time in Tasmania.
He has a long exhibiting career with many solo shows and a number of art prizes.
He has recently added Gyotaku Workshops to his art practice so as to share, what for him, is a much loved art technique as well as another excuse to go fishing.
Artist's Statement
................. And so I am compelled to paint wild seas that threaten to drown me, impenetrable forests in the Blue Mountains that are “no country for old men “, back roads along hidden rivers and cathedral-like Tasmanian rainforests, themselves under threat from man’s encroachment and exploitation.........
